Library Sampling

Content Separator

We search for eligible titles in library systems across Canada to calculate payments to creators. This process is known as library sampling. We select public library systems with large collections in different regions of Canada.

We select 7 English and 7 French library systems. We search for eligible titles in the online catalogues of selected library systems or within digital copies of their paper catalogues. English books are sampled in the English libraries; French books are sampled in the French libraries. Bilingual books or books written in languages other than English or French are sampled in all 14 library catalogues (though the maximum number of times a title can be counted, for the purpose of calculating payments, is limited to 7).
